What we’re working on… Community-Based Service Network: A 2-year pilot project originally funded by Baptist Community Ministries and the Institute for Mental Hygiene to design a systematic approach to delivering effective services for children, youth and their families. Since the storm, this project was accelerated and expanded, and we are now managing a network of providers under an emergency TANF grant through the Louisiana Family Recovery Corps. Our purpose is to develop a local model for the use of wraparound funds to increase coordination of care among local agencies. Our role is to facilitate the development of this “community-based service network” by 1) raising the necessary information (including promising practices, literature reviews, and community perspectives) and 2) providing management assessment and capacity-building support for participating agencies. Funder supports: We have been contracted by several local funders, including the United Way for Greater New Orleans and the City of New Orleans’ Neighborhood 1, to conduct workshops on evidence-based program planning and grantwriting for their pre-selected applicants. Maintenance and dissemination: As our body of shared information and infrastructure grows – especially in the post-Katrina environment – so does our responsibility for keeping it up-to-date and notifying our audiences about updates, improvements and new offerings. We publish tips on using data for nonprofit planning in this new environment, and announce them on our Numbers Talk e-newsletter (visit www.gnocdc.org to sign up). And, behind the scenes, we are continuously improving our processes for tracking and responding to technical assistance requests. |
